How to Print Coloring Pages

Printing your favorite coloring pages is quick and easy. Follow this guide whether you’re downloading a page from our site or saving one you’ve colored online.

Before You Print

Before printing your coloring pages, it’s worth considering the type of paper you’ll be using. For everyday use, standard copy paper works fine, especially for crayons and pencils. But if you want the best results – sharper lines, smoother coloring, and less bleed-through – the paper you choose makes a big difference.

1. Printing our Coloring Pages

All of our downloadable coloring pages are provided as high-resolution PDFs. They are all sized for US Letter (8.5 × 11 inches), but also print beautifully on A4 paper (8.27 × 11.69 inches), which is slightly narrower and taller.

If you’d like to use a different paper size, choose the “Scale – Fit to Paper” option when printing (steps below).

What resolution/DPI are the files?
All of our coloring pages are created at a minimum of 300 DPI, which ensures sharp, crisp lines and high-quality printing every time.

Step-by-Step Guide:

  1. Download the PDF
    • Click the Download PDF button on the page.
    • The PDF will open in your browser, but you can also save the file to your computer.
  2. Open the File
    • If saved to your computer, double-click the PDF to open it in your PDF viewer (e.g., Adobe Acrobat Reader, Preview on Mac).
  3. Select Print
    • Go to File → Print or press Ctrl + P (Windows) / Command + P (Mac).
  4. Choose Your Printer
    • Select the printer you’d like to use from the dropdown.
  5. Set Print Options
    • Page Size: Letter (default) or A4. (Make sure the right paper size is loaded in your printer.)
    • Scale/Fit to Page: Check this option if your margins look uneven in the print preview area.
    • Orientation: Usually Portrait (vertical).
  6. Print
    • Click Print and enjoy your page!

Note: When coloring with markers, always place a backing sheet behind your page to prevent bleed-through and protect the surface underneath.

Tips for Best Results:

  • Use good-quality paper (heavier weight works well for markers).
  • Choose “High Quality” or “Best” in your printer settings for sharper lines.
  • If colors don’t look right, try CMYK mode (closer to what printers use).
